Mermaid Ocean Shells

Mermaid Ocean Shells

This is a pattern that roared onto the scene with an incredible bang. The very first pair hit eBay at the end of December 2016 and went for an astonishing $260 even though the pattern is still available at retail (if you're lucky). This set off a 2-3 week frenzy of high dollar sales turned normal LLR lovers into cold hearted flippers over night.

Don't buy into terms such as "rare," "hard to find," "major unicorn," etc on these -- the resale market has been completely flooded by the initial high dollar sales, which thankfully has driven the price down and affords plenty of opportunity to find a sweet deal for this unicorn.  There were 500 of these sold over the past 90 days on eBay alone -- astonishing when you consider LLR only makes 2,000 - 2,5000 items in each print!

To show how the price has come down after the initial frenzy we're going to present the data in two different sets for each size so that the current average is not skewed up by those early sales.

Ones Size (OS)

Before January 21, 2017:

  • High - $200
  • Low - $82
  • Average - $117.75
AFTER January 21, 2017:
  • High - $110
  • Low - $50
  • Average - $70.10
Quite a different story with the average price on OS dropping nearly $50! This was largely due to the huge demand for the pattern and the relative scarcity early on. There were only 25 pairs exchanged prior to 1/21 compared to 241 after. The increased supply allowed the price to normalize and you can now get these in the $50-$60 range if you are selective and patient with your hunt. As usual, fixed price listings on eBay are tending to run slightly over average while auctions provide your best bet for a good deal.

Tall & Curvy (TC)

Before January 21, 2017:

  • High - $260
  • Low - $72
  • Average - $110.14
AFTER January 21, 2017:
  • High - $110
  • Low - $46
  • Average - $79.31
Very similar story with TC though the average has only dropped about $30 landing just under $80. TC is currently going for a slight premium compared to OS with lower supply since 1/21 (just 137 closed listings compared to 241 OS). Fixed price listings will tend to be priced on the high side but if you see one $75 or under you can feel confident buying below the average. Auctions are the way to go if you are looking to pay less than $70 for this print, it can definitely happen!
